Type R engine potential

Someone's going to tune the Type R and if there isn't one out there already, then it's just a matter of time. This is the 2018 Honda Civic Type R touring car that's going to race in this year's BTCC has a 350bhp+ 2.0-litre turbo. That's a good deal more power than the normal Type R at 316bhp. So the engine could be tuned for substantially more power, just a question of who's going to do it.

Its pretty crazy that this styling of this race variant, is less over the top than what's offered in the street car. Imo Honda should take a good look at this model and make some adjustments for the next generation CTR and dial back some of the current styling cues.

The overall shape is pretty much the same compared to the Type R we have, but everything is painted the same matte black so all the features blend in and doesn't look as dramatic. That''s something you can do with a custom paint job and mate plasti dip.

The overall shape may be the same, but I think this setup looks way better. Not sure if its just the color choice, but I also really like the new fender flares. Found another civic with a matte finish and it really does compliment the body style. Id like to see the Type R without that giant wing.

This is a good time for brands like Mugen and Spoon to come out with motorsports inspired areo kits. Type R's have been on the market long enough to have people willing to spend $6000+ on a widebody kit.

Man I just cant wrap my head around spending that kind of money on an aftermarket kit. If I lived somewhere that didn't have snow than sure, but imo these new kits might not survive the winter months.

There will always be interested buyers, especially those who wants to shave off even a second from their track time. That's why the industry exists and why there are so many body kits out there.
Just need to know if they ever plan to release a tune that'll get us closer to 350bhp.

We know that Hondata has their tune coming by the end of March, but I don't think they have revealed any numbers yet. Not sure if we can expect them to deliver on the same performance as what we've seen in this years BTCC Type R.

Thought the BTCC Type R is going to be for racing use only and they may limit purchase to just teams. Won't be surprised if that's the case. I doubt hondata has access to their tech but we can expect tunes from them some time in the future.

We're getting pretty close to the release of the Hondata tune for the CTR and I'm expecting some pretty serious gains. What they have been able to accomplish with the new Accord has really showcased their knowledge of these vehicles. Is it realistic that we'll see around 350hp with this new tune?
